Active Programs
University Hostels
314 Community currently operates two residential hostels in Mukono, Uganda for students in our program who attend Uganda Christian University. Both hostels have 24-hour security, onsite meal preparation, computers, and printing capabilities. There are two Resident Advisors (RAs) at each hostel who are responsible for executing our programs and, in general, doing life with the students. The hostels are the critical “laboratories” where we’re refining our approach and philosophy to create the most qualified and most desirable candidates in all of East Africa. For the sponsorship organizations we support, the hostels and services will be provided at no cost.
Community Programs and Entrepreneurship
Pigs and Goats
Because we aspire to see sustained and generational change in Uganda's disadvantaged villages, our community programs are the foundation of the entire ministry. We have engaged the two main communities of the post-secondary students we support with an innovative entrepreneurial program focused on the development of "franchises" that raise pigs and goats. While the idea of raising pigs/goats for income is not new in Uganda, our approach to empowerment is changing everything for the families in our program.
Approved 314 Community Members will, at the appropriate time, be given pregnant pigs or goats to raise. Once they have given birth and after 6 months of growth, we (314) get two young females back for our farm. This approach allows this part of our ministry to be self-funded. Currently, we have more than 100 families with their own pig or goat business. Most importantly, they do not receive any funding or resources from 314…they are truly self-sufficient!
Perhaps the biggest obligation for our members is mandatory participation in AWAMU, a registered local CBO (community-based organization). We helped the community incorporate this formal organization, but we are not directly involved. At the end of 2025, 200+ families are participating!
Discipleship / Local Church
314 believes that the key to community development is for every person to believe they are worthy of friendship and investment. 314 Field Mentors will meet with our community members every other week at their homes with the purpose of building a trusted relationship. Our goal for these meetings is to help our families understand their inherent value and dignity in being created in the image of God. If we can address their poverty of identity, they can be successful in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
In addition to the consistent fellowship with their Field Mentors, community members also have access to churches with incredible teaching and solid theology. 314 Community has partnered with Agape Church pastored by Daniel Isabyre. Pastor Daniel is the main bible teacher at The Amazima School and has a master’s degree from Southeastern Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Agape has two locations…one in each of the two main communities we serve.
Community Center
In the heart of the main village we serve, 314 Community has built a community center that serves as a hub for our discipleship programs, entrepreneurship training, and is a model farm for how we guide our members to build the proper housing for their pigs and goats. In addition, the facility is available to the broader community for weddings, burials, etc. On Sundays, the community center becomes a campus for Agape Church (see above).
Tuition Support
314 Community is committed to providing our services directly to sponsorship organizations and individual sponsors. Officially, we say it this way:
314 Community endeavors to come alongside organizations to supplement and complement existing resources to ensure their students have the best opportunity to realize their full potential.
